The teacher may want to put differnt point values on some assignments based on the amount of time and effort they will take.
Commercial – Create a 30 second video or audio commercial to advertise a showing of The Crucible. Theater review – write an original theater review of 500 words. This must be typed, double-spaced, and in 12 point font. Note- teachers may want to find several real play reviews in newspapers or online to give students a model. Reader’s Theater – Two or more students team up to perform a scene from the play as reader’s theater. For a quick definition of reader’s theater, click here. Artwork – create a work of art that represents your interpretation of the play. This can be in any medium. Note- teacher will want to set requirements for this assignment (size, quality, etc.) Web page – create and post an original web page celebrating the play and/or author. Stage design model– Design and create a scale model of a stage setup for The Crucible. Interpretive poem – Write a poem that shows your interpretation of the play. This should not be a summary, but an expression of the impact that the play made on you. The poem should be at least 20 lines. Interpretive Slide show – Prepare a slide show with pictures that illustrate your interpretation of the play. You will present this slideshow to the class while giving a rationale for each image. You must have at least 20 images. They can be photos from the Internet, or photos taken with a digital camera. Sources must be cited. Canonize the play – prepare and give a 5-7 minute persuasive speech in which you propose that The Crucible should be considered a classic of American theater. Slides and visuals that back your claim will be useful. Persuasive speech – Give a 5-7 minute speech to an audience that has not seen the play. Your goal is to convince the audience that they should go see The Crucible. Musical interpretation – Select (or compose) and perform a musical piece that illustrates your interpretation of the play. The performance should be at least 3 minutes long. Note – bonus points should be given for students that compose an original piece.
